Eligibility

• Must hold a bachelor’s degree prior to undertaking the grant
• Must have U.S. citizenship to apply for the U.S. round; students who are citizens of countries outside of the UK can apply for the International round

How to Apply

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship requires a concurrent application to an eligible postgraduate program at Cambridge University via Cambridge University's Graduate Application Portal. The Gates Cambridge Scholarship application is available within the postgraduate application portal. 

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship requires the following:

• Responses to four short-answer questions, approximately 200-300 words each;
• An additional reference;
• A research proposal (for DPhil applicants only)

Applicants in the U.S., must submit their complete application for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship and their selected graduate program by the national deadline to be announced Spring 2026. Applicants who are living outside the U.S. must submit their completed application for the scholarship and their selected graduate program by the international deadline to be announced Spring 2026.
