The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans (PD Soros) supports New Americans— immigrants or the children of immigrants—pursuing graduate or professional school (one or two-year program) in the United States.

  • What’s provided: Each award is for up to $90,000. The financial breakdown is as follows: Each Fellow receives $25,000 in stipend support a year (all stipend awards are capped at $50,000 per year), as well as 50 percent of required tuition and fees, up to $20,000 per year, for one to two years. The first year of Fellowship funding cannot be deferred.

Eligibility

  • An applicant's birth parents must have both been born outside of the U.S. as non-U.S. citizens, and both parents must not have been eligible for U.S. citizenship at the time of their births.
  • U.S. Citizen by birth, U.S. Citizen by naturalization, permanent resident, refugee & asylees in the U.S., current and past DACA recipients, or graduated from high school and college in the U.S. are eligible to apply.
  • Must be a current college senior or young professional planning to start an eligible graduate degree, or currently enrolled graduate student who has not yet started a third year (for PhDs) or subsequent year of the program (for two-year Master's) before the start of the grant.
  • Must be 30 or younger as of the deadline to apply.

How to Apply

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans application requires the following: 

  • Demographic, background and academic information
  • A resume
  • Responses to two essays, reflecting on 1) your experiences as a New American, and 2) your current and near-term career-related activities and goals (1000 words each)
  • Official transcripts
  • Scores for any standardized tests as required for admission to your selected graduate program
  • At least three and no more than five letters of recommendation  

Students must submit their completed application via the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans online application system no later than the national deadline, to be announced Summer 2026.
