Churchill Scholarship

Fellowships

The Churchill Scholarship supports students in pursuing graduate studies or research in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences at the University of Cambridge as residents of Churchill College, Cambridge, where they will receive either an MPhil or MASt, depending on the field. Brown University is one of a select group of U.S. universities invited to nominate two candidates each year to the national competition.

Eligibility

  • Must have U.S. citizenship
  • Must be a senior or a student who has graduated within the past 12 months prior to the deadline
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree upon taking up the scholarship

How to Apply

Applying for the Churchill Scholarship is a multi-stage process involving campus nomination for all prospective applicants. (Important Note: It is important to contact with a relevant laboratory or Cambridge faculty member before beginning your application.)

1. Complete the Churchill Scholarship application, including:

  • The complete Churchill application form on the Churchill online application portal (Note: Select Churchill College as your first choice)
  • One page proposed program of study
  • Two page personal statement
  • Four letters of recommendation
  • An official transcript from each institution you have attended

2. Submit your complete application through the Churchill Scholarship application portal by the campus deadline of 11:59pm ET on September 18, 2026 for consideration in the campus nomination process.

Brown’s Churchill Review Committee meets in early October to review applications and select nominees. If you are nominated, you will:

  1. Meet with a fellowship advisor to discuss application logistics and committee feedback
  2. Apply to your designated problem at the University of Cambridge using Cambridge's application portal by the preferred institutional deadline to be announced Summer 2026. (Important Note: You must put Churchill College as your first choice on the Cambridge application.)
  3. Submit your final application to the the Churchill Scholarship application portal by the national deadline to be announced Summer 2026.
