Promoting future leaders in U.S.-UK relations, the Marshall Scholarship provides students with funding to pursue a one- to two-year graduate program (or two one-year programs) at any institution in the UK. Brown is able to nominate 24 students each year for the Marshall Scholarship.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be a rising senior, current senior, or recent alum
  • Must have a GPA equivalency of 3.7

How to Apply

Follow the steps below to apply for nomination for the Marshall Scholarship:

  1. Complete the UK Awards Interest Form (to be shared Spring 2026) by May 22, 2026 to sign up for Brown’s UK Awards Google Classroom.
  2. Register through Marshall’s online application system to gain access to the application materials.
  3. Navigate Brown’s UK Awards Google Classroom, which will provide more information on the application process and give you the opportunity to start drafting application materials.
  4. If you submit your drafts in the Google Classroom by June 8, you will be paired with a fellowships advisor for one-on-one application support.
  5. Complete the Marshall Scholarship application, including:
    • Demographic questions;
    • Personal Statement;
    • Program Statement;
    • Three short essays: Leadership essay, Ambassadorial essay, and Post-Scholarship Plan essay;
    • An official or unofficial Brown University transcript and transcripts from other institutions you have attended (both domestically and abroad);
    • Three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from Brown faculty (please consult with our program about exceptions). Letters of Recommendation should be addressed to the Marshall Committee. (Note: Your recommenders must at least be registered by the campus deadline. It is preferred that your letters are received by this deadline as well.)
  6. Submit your application through Marshall’s online application system by the campus deadline of 11:59pm ET on July 13, 2026. 

After You Apply

Brown’s Marshall Review Committee meets in early July to review and nominate applicants. Each year, Brown is allowed to nominate 24 applicants. 

If you are nominated by Brown for the Marshall Scholarship, you will:

  1. Meet with a fellowship advisor one-on-one to discuss and revise your application, following committee feedback;
  2. Submit your final application through Marshall’s online application system by the national deadline (to be announced Spring 2026).
