Fellowships
The Udall Scholarship is for sophomores and juniors committed to pursuing careers dedicated to either improving or preserving the environment, to Native American health and Tribal policy, and/or to effective public policy conflict resolution. Each year, Brown is able to nominate 4 students in the environment category and 4 students in the Native American health and Tribal policy category. Native American and Alaska Native students who are in fields related to health care or tribal public policy are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply
Applying for the Udall Scholarship is a multi-stage process involving campus nomination for all prospective applicants. Interested students are encouraged to meet with a member of the Fellowships Team to explore the opportunity and receive feedback on their application materials.
Follow the steps below to apply for prospective nomination for the Udall Scholarship:
- Complete the Udall Scholarship UFunds application, including:
- Demographic and academic information;
- Responses to a series of 11 short-answer questions;
- An essay reflecting on the Udall Foundation’s core values (800 words);
- An official transcript;
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Submit your complete application through the UFunds application system by the campus deadline to be announced (January 2027) for consideration in the campus nomination process.
After You Apply
Brown’s Udall Review Committee meets in early February to review and nominate applicants. Each year, Brown is able to nominate 4 students in the environment category and 4 students in the Native American health and Tribal policy category.
If you are nominated by Brown for the Udall Scholarship, you will:
- Meet with a fellowship advisor one-on-one to discuss and revise your application, following committee feedback;
- You will receive a link to the Udall Scholarship’s online application system to submit your application before the national deadline (to be announced Spring 2026).
The Fellowships Team will submit your application by the national deadline.
